Our Environmental Commitment

As an environmentally forward-thinking company, we believe the decisions we make today have the potential to change the future for generations to come. We’ve demonstrated leadership in this area, taking action to reduce our emissions and supporting a transition to clean energy in New Jersey.

New Jersey Natural Gas operates the most environmentally-sound natural gas delivery system in New Jersey, as measured by leaks per mile, and we have set a goal to reduce emissions from our New Jersey operations 60 percent from 2006 levels by 2030.

Our solar portfolio continues to expand across New Jersey and beyond, and our strategy includes the introduction of decarbonized fuels such as hydrogen and renewable natural gas; greener sources of energy and resources for the future.

Through Conserve to Preserve™ and The SAVEGREEN Project® we're setting a new standard for energy conservation and efficiency, supporting New Jersey’s clean energy goals.

Our Coastal Climate Initiative is supporting the protection and restoration of one of New Jersey’s most treasured resources, its coastline, from the effects of climate change. We invite our customers to join us in the effort.

In our efforts to help protect the environment, we are also out in the community – from participating in beach clean-ups and hosting environmental programs such as Ocean Fun Days – to raise environmental awareness.

Our goal is to operate high-integrity, environmentally responsible assets that safely and reliably serve our customers and support our customers effort use energy more wisely. Individual actions play a critical role in protecting our environment, and we believe by working together positive change can happen.

NJR has won multiple awards for their sustainability efforts under the Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise™ program. Since 2005, we have diverted approximately 30 percent of our waste annually from landfills by instituting the purchase of remanufactured and or recycled products and waste prevention, recycling and reuse programs. More information on our recycling efforts can be found in NJR’s Sustainability Report.
