natural gas pipe and storage

Our Midstream Investments

About NJR Midstream

NJR Midstream invests in, owns and operates midstream assets including natural gas pipeline and storage facilities. Our companies provide transportation and storage services to a broad range of customers in the natural gas market including gas distributors, producers, interstate pipelines, electric generators and wholesale gas marketers.

NJR Midstream owns and operates Adelphia Gateway, an 84-mile interstate pipeline company located in southeastern Pennsylvania. Adelphia’s northern zone currently serves two gas-fired generation facilities in Lower Mount Bethel Township, PA. Adelphia’s southern zone is in the process of being converted from oil to gas service and expanded to provide transportation service for markets in the greater Philadelphia region. When completed, Adelphia will have the capacity to deliver up to 0.85 Bcf per day and will interconnect with multiple end use markets and several interstate pipeline systems including Texas Eastern, Columbia and Transcontinental.

Additionally, we own a 20 percent equity interest in the PennEast Pipeline. This proposed 120-mile greenfield pipeline from northeast Pennsylvania to western New Jersey will provide reliable and affordable natural gas to customers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and support economic development and job creation.

Other ownership interests include natural gas storage facilities in the Gulf Coast and Marcellus Shale regions, with working natural gas capacity of more than 44 Bcf.  In October 2019, the Leaf River Energy Center was acquired. This premier natural gas storage facility is strategically located in southeastern Mississippi, which is one of the most significant energy demand centers in the United States. Leaf River connects to six interstate pipelines and has three salt dome caverns with a combined working natural gas storage capacity of 32 Bcf. One of the newest high capacity storage facilities in North America, its caverns came online between 2011 and 2014.

NJR Midstream also owns a 50 percent equity interest in Steckman Ridge, a 12 Bcf natural gas storage facility in Bedford County, PA. This facility provides direct access to the Texas Eastern Transmission and Dominion Transmission pipelines, and significant natural gas supplies from the East Coast and Rocky Mountains.

We are continuously evaluating opportunities to expand our services and footprint through independent or joint venture projects and the acquisition and enhancement of existing infrastructure.
