NEW JERSEY NATURAL GAS HOLDS ITS ANNUAL ENERGY ASSISTANCE DAYS

08/26/2025 - For Immediate Release

WALL, N.J. – This September and October, New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) will hold its annual Energy Assistance Days throughout Monmouth, Ocean and Morris Counties. These in-person events provide hands-on assistance to help customers determine their eligibility and complete applications for free grants to help pay their energy bills. Customers behind on their NJNG bills may also qualify for payment arrangements to help bring their accounts current. These programs are also a good opportunity for customers to get a head start on managing their natural gas bills before the start of the heating season.
.
“Energy Assistance Days are designed to meet customers where they are. By attending an event, customers can meet in person with our team to explore programs that best meet their individual household needs,” said Maria Delaplain, manager of Customer Outreach at New Jersey Natural Gas. “There are a wide range of assistance programs available for households of various income levels. For example, a family of four with a household income of $153,514 may qualify. Also, customers may be eligible for more than one program.”
.
Bilingual representatives from NJNG’s energy assistance team as well as local community action agencies will be on hand to help guide customers through available grants and the application process for different programs including:
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)*†
  • Universal Service Fund (USF)*†
  • USF - The Fresh Start Program*†
  • New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Payment Assistance for Gas and Electric (NJBPU PAGE)*†
  • NJ SHARES Energy Assistance Grant*†
  • New Jersey SHARES Smart Utility*†

  • NJNG’s Gift of Warmth*

  • Households where no member has a social security card may apply for USF*† ONLY
  • Government-issued ID
  • Proof of residence — mortgage/tax bill or lease from landlord
  • Recent natural gas and electricity bills
  • Proof of income for all household members over the age of 18 including, but not limited to, employment/pay stubs, unemployment, SSI, pension, self-employment federal tax income, rental income and TANF
