New Jersey Natural Gas

NJNG MOVES AHEAD WITH RESTORATION AND RE-PRESSURIZATION PLANS

11/10/2012 - For Immediate Release

(WALL, NJ) – New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) today provided the following updates of our assessment and restoration work in the portions of our system damaged during Hurricane Sandy:

Bay Head to Seaside
We have completed our assessments of main in the shut-off portion of our system from Bay Head to Seaside. Due to the extensive damage in this area, lack of access remains an issue, but we have been able to complete 65 percent of our service assessments. We are developing our re-pressurization plan, and our installation plan for the main that was damaged near the Mantoloking Bridge.

Monmouth County
We are planning for the re-pressurization of 5.2 miles of main in Sea Bright. We have completed 43 percent of our service assessments in coastal Monmouth, and installed 350 feet of main. In the Bayshore region of the county, we have completed 96 percent of our service assessments.

Ocean County Mainland
We have completed 4,900 service assessments. There are 1,180 meters ready for natural gas restoration, and 200 meters have been turned back on.

Long Beach Island
We will begin implementing our service restoration plan for Long Beach Island this Sunday, November 11. Details on the schedule of LBI restoration work are available at www.njng.com.

Federal, New Jersey and local safety codes prohibit tampering with natural gas meters and service lines. Even if natural gas service has not yet been restored to your area, this could significantly hamper efforts to restore service.

If you smell an odor of natural gas, leave the building immediately. Do not light matches, touch electrical switches or appliances, or use your telephone. From a safe location, customers should notify us of all gas leaks immediately at 800-GAS-LEAK.
