NEW JERSEY NATURAL GAS RANKS HIGHEST IN THE EAST REGION ON THE J.D. POWER AND ASSOCIATES 2011 GAS UTILITY BUSINESS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION STUDY
03/17/2011 - For Immediate Release

WALL, N.J. – New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) ranks the highest in the Eastern United States, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2011 Gas Utility Business Customer Satisfaction StudySM. NJNG ranks highest in overall business customer satisfaction among 11 natural gas utilities in the East Region with an overall score of 669, well above the regional average of 643.

“To earn this distinction from our business customers, in addition to ranking highest in the East Region on the most recent J.D. Power and Associates 2010 Gas Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study, says a lot about our company and our commitment to our customers,” said Laurence M. Downes, chairman and CEO of NJNG.

The annual study, now in its sixth year, measures business customer satisfaction with their gas utility by region based upon billing and payment, corporate citizenship, price, communications, customer service and field service. Among the factors examined, NJNG ranks highest in price, communications and corporate citizenship. While NJNG performs strongly in communications and price, overall these are among the major areas of concern for business customers according to the 2011 study. Satisfaction with communications declined most notably from the previous year; and for the first time is lower than price, which has historically been the least satisfying aspect of utility service for business customers.

NJNG has instituted targeted programs such as Conserve to Preserve Business Online, which offers industry specific, energy-related resources and information to increase operational efficiency and manage energy costs. Through this free service, business customers can find new ways to reduce their energy usage, save money and preserve the environment. Additionally, it provides links to information about financial support and technical assistance available through New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program.

Through its commitment to corporate citizenship, each year NJNG and its employees contribute over 5,400 hours of volunteer service and assist over 1,000 non-profit and community service organizations in its service territory.
