LOCAL RESIDENTS PARTICIPATE IN COOL DOWN FOR WARMTH ICE HOUSE CHALLENGE; RAISE FUNDS TO HELP CUSTOMERS IN NEED PAY ENERGY BILLS

02/26/2018 - For Immediate Release

Wall, N.J. — Kathleen Ellis of Belmar and Craig Lynch of Wall Township recently took part in the NJ SHARES Cool Down for Warmth Ice House Challenge to help New Jersey’s neighbors in need stay warm this winter. The event, which marked NJ SHARES 20th anniversary, included an actual house made from ice to highlight the critical importance of heat, especially during the cold, winter months. The goal of the challenge was to raise funds for local residents struggling to afford their heating costs and stay out of the Ice House.

With the support of their employer, Wall-based New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), Ellis and Lynch each formed a team, serving as team captains intent on staying out of the Ice House. The goal for each team was to raise $1,500. Backed by the generosity of NJNG employees, customers and stakeholders, Ellis and Lynch together raised over $37,000 for this worthy cause, and both agreed to sit in the Ice House so another family doesn’t have to go cold this winter.

“Heating your home is a necessity, not a choice,” said Kathy Ellis. “If by sitting in the Ice House we can raise awareness, support the mission of NJ SHARES and help another family keep warm this winter, then that is a challenge we are proud to accept.”

“No one should have to live in a house that is ice cold, and you don’t have to,” added Craig Lynch. “Help to heat your home is available. That is why the work of organizations like NJ SHARES is so important.”

NJ SHARES serves as safety net for households experiencing unanticipated financial hardships that are not eligible for other forms of assistance to help pay their energy bills. The funds raised as part of the event will go to help families in need, including over 113 NJNG customers, pay their energy bills and stay warm this winter.
