New Jersey Natural Gas

NJNG Conducting Safety Inspections in Ocean County
04/30/2013 - For Immediate Release

New Jersey Natural Gas will be conducting safety inspections and operations that require us to blow down our 20-inch transmission line, which runs along Route 70 from Whitesville Road in Toms River to the Lakewood Cogeneration Plant just west of exit ramp 88 of the Garden State Parkway.

Beginning today at noon and continuing through Thursday or Friday, we will de-pressurize this line, which will safely expel natural gas into the atmosphere. Those in the immediate area may notice significant noise and odor.

Today’s blow down will involve the largest amount of natural gas and the noise and odor will lessen with each subsequent run.

We have notified police departments and adjoining businesses, and taken the necessary steps to respond to customer phone calls, including assigning additional personnel to respond.

This operation is being conducted in a safe and controlled environment, and poses no threat to safety. We appreciate the public’s understanding and patience, and will complete the blow downs as quickly as possible.
