NEW JERSEY NATURAL GAS AND NEW JERSEY’S CLEAN ENERGY PROGRAM™ JOIN EFFORTS TO ENCOURAGE ENERGY-EFFICIENT LIGHTING

06/05/2012 - For Immediate Release

WALL, N.J. -- For a fourth consecutive year, New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) will host a New Jersey's Clean Energy Program (NJCEP) Energy-Saving Lighting Fair. Back by popular demand, the lighting fair provides attendees the opportunity to learn about the features and benefits of energy-efficient lighting technologies and purchase products at deeply-discounted prices.

The lighting fair will be held Friday, June 15, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at NJNG headquarters located at 1415 Wyckoff Road in Wall Township. This event is free and open to the public.

TechniArt Inc., one of NJCEP's outreach and education partners, will be selling ENERGY STAR®-qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs, fixtures, LEDs and other energy-saving devices at specially reduced prices made possible by NJCEP. Members of the TechniArt team will offer hands-on demonstrations that provide education and information about ENERGY STAR lighting and help dispel misconceptions about performance. Also present will be members of NJNG's The SAVEGREEN Project will be on hand to explain the utility's energy-efficiency programs, including rebates and incentives, an on-bill repayment plan for the approved cost of NJCEP's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR-eligible home improvements and a home energy audit. NJNG will also have information on free tools and resources available to help customers make wise energy choices as well as energy assistance programs.

The United States has set minimum efficiency standards for lighting, which precludes most traditional incandescent bulbs. So, now's the time to get in on the action with ENERGY STAR qualified bulbs that use about 75 percent less energy, last up to 10 times longer and result in cost savings of about $40 in electricity costs over the life of a bulb.

If every American home replaced just one light with an ENERGY STAR-qualified light in one year, collectively, we could save enough energy to light three million homes annually, save about $600 million in annual energy costs and prevent nine billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions -- equivalent to removing 800,000 cars from the road.
