NEW JERSEY NATURAL GAS PARTNERS WITH NEW JERSEY’S CLEAN ENERGY PROGRAM IN STATE’S FIRST DIRECT INSTALL PRESENTATION
01/06/2010 - For Immediate ReleaseDirect Install, NJCEP’s new initiative under the NJ SmartStart Buildings® Program and the commercial offering available through NJNG’s SAVEGREEN Project®, is a turnkey solution that makes it easy and affordable to upgrade to high-efficiency equipment. Created specifically for existing small- to medium-sized buildings, Direct Install is designed to cut a facility’s energy costs by providing eligible upgrades to lighting as well as heating, venting, air conditioning and other outdated equipment with energy-efficient alternatives. The program pays up to 80 percent of the retrofit costs, dramatically improving payback.
“We’re excited to provide such an incredible offer to small- and medium-sized businesses,” said Bob Kudrick, manager of energy-efficiency programs at NJNG. “With owners paying as little as 20 percent of the total cost of the project, they now have a financial incentive to invest in energy-efficient upgrades to lower their monthly expenses while also making long-term environmentally responsible energy choices.”
Asbury Park nonprofit Interfaith Neighbors conducted an initial analysis of their facility and was cited as an example during the presentation. The organization learned that by implementing the customized recommendations provided during the analysis, it could save approximately $5,000 per year on energy costs.
“This is a tremendous savings, money that can be reinvested into our programs,” stated Paul McEvily, associate executive director at Interfaith Neighbors. “Because the Direct Install incentive makes the investment so affordable, we will be able to recoup our outlay in less than two and a half years.”
Tom Gilmour, president of the Asbury Park UEZ, and Dan DiBenedetto, president of the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce were in attendance at the meeting along with representatives from NJNG. By September 30, 2010, the utility expects at least 100 participants to take advantage of the limited-time-only incentives.
The meeting, held in Asbury Park, was the first of many to be scheduled throughout the company’s service territory. On January 20, 2010, at 8:00 a.m., NJNG will hold its second Direct Install presentation at the Long Branch Campus of Brookdale Community College located at Broadway at Third Avenue.
