NEW JERSEY NATURAL GAS SAVEGREEN PROJECT™ CREATES NEW JOBS AND SAVES CUSTOMERS MONEY
11/24/2009 - For Immediate ReleaseSAVEGREEN, a new initiative under NJNG’s Conserve to Preserve® program, was created in collaboration with state regulators to support an ongoing effort to provide customers with the knowledge they need and the money-saving incentives they desire to make the right energy choices for their families, homes, businesses and communities. The program has the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 15 million pounds annually, helping to meet the state’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 20 percent by 2020.
To fill positions for home energy auditors, NJNG hired candidates with backgrounds in residential construction. This ensured their familiarity with building structures and heating equipment. Collectively, the team has over 200 years of experience as residential inspectors, home builder project managers and licensed electricians. This prior experience was essential to the team as, immediately upon hiring, they attended specialized training to become certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI), a requirement to perform home energy audits for the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program.
Next month, NJNG’s team of home energy auditors will perform their 500th audit as they work toward the SAVEGREEN goal of 5,000 audits by next September. NJNG has also provided rebates in excess of $237,000 to over 250 customers.
Customer rebates include as much as $1,200 on the purchase of a new high-efficiency furnace or boiler through a $300 WARMAdvantage rebate from New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program and a $900 enhanced rebate from NJNG’s SAVEGREEN Project. Alternatively, by taking the whole-house approach through Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, customers could save up to 30 percent on energy costs, increasing the comfort and value of their homes, and may be eligible for zero percent financing on loans.
Information about these incentives is available at www.savegreenproject.com. NJNG customers will also find program information on the company’s Web site, www.njng.com, and in the monthly customer newsletter over the coming months. Additionally, customers are encouraged to sign up for NJNG’s free E-Tips service, which delivers information about the most up-to-date energy-saving tips and programs via e-mail each month.
