NEW JERSEY NATURAL GAS AND INTERFAITH NEIGHBORS CELEBRATE THE COMPLETION OF TWO NEW HOMES AS PART OF THEIR HOME OWNERSHIP PROGRAM
07/17/2009 - For Immediate ReleaseASBURY PARK, NJ – New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) and Interfaith Neighbors, today, celebrated the completion of two new homes at 47 and 51 Ridge Avenue as a part of their long-running partnership to provide affordable housing opportunities in Monmouth County, and welcomed the Napoleon family as Asbury Park’s newest homeowners.
“Working with Interfaith Neighbors always provides a special opportunity for NJNG to help make a meaningful difference in our communities,” said Laurence M. Downes, chairman and CEO of NJNG. “Since we began our Home Ownership Program 13 years ago, we have helped 21 families realize the dream of home ownership and, in the process, strengthened our communities and enhanced the quality of life for us all. I would like to congratulate the Napoleon family as our newest home owners and wish them a lifetime of happiness and dreams come true in their new home.”
Mondestin and Julda Napoleon, along with their four daughters, will move into 51 Ridge Avenue. A two-family home with four bedrooms and two baths in the main residence, the extra space will be a great benefit to the growing family. “This house will give me and my family all the possibilities and opportunities to grow,” Mondestin said. “Now I will be able to see my daughters grow up in their own home.”
“This is a particularly special event for us because Interfaith Neighbors has been assisting the Napoleon family for some time while Mondestin completed his educational requirements to become a registered nurse,” said Joseph Marmora, executive director of Interfaith Neighbors. “A wonderful success story that just compliments the outstanding relationship we enjoy with NJNG.”
The home also comes equipped with high-efficiency appliances and compact fluorescent light bulbs to help the family conserve and manage their energy cost. Interfaith Neighbors is currently in the process of identifying a family for the home at 47 Ridge Avenue.
The Home Ownership Program began in 1996, when NJNG donated $25,000 in seed money to Interfaith Neighbors for the renovation of a home in Asbury Park. The program aims to provide home ownership opportunities for working-poor families who would otherwise be unable to afford a house. Including today’s dedication, 22 homes have been offered to qualifying families in Monmouth County. NJNG is also a corporate sponsor of Interfaith Neighbor’s Asbury Park West Side Neighborhood Revitalization Plan to improve housing conditions, strengthen the economy and enhance the quality of life through the redevelopment of Asbury Park’s West Side.
