COASTAL HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TO BENEFIT FROM NJR TEXTILE DRIVE
04/19/2006 - For Immediate Release

WALL, NJ – New Jersey Resources (NJR), the parent company of New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), will sponsor a textile-recycling program, with proceeds benefiting Coastal Habitat for Humanity in Wall to support their efforts in making affordable homes a reality for families in our area.

The NJR Environmental Committee, made up of volunteer members from the company, is organizing the drive. Their efforts will help reduce the amount of textiles sent to solid waste sites and enable local residents and people in third world counties to reuse donated clothing, linens and other recycled textiles.

“We hope people will consider this alternative as they put away their winter clothes in anticipation of warmer weather,” said Laurence M. Downes, chairman and CEO of NJNG. “With participation throughout our service territory, we can make this a truly successful fundraiser for Coastal Habitat in support of their mission to bring affordable housing to our area.”

Through a partnership with Community Recycling, based in Fairless Hills, Pa., proceeds generated from the sale of textiles will be donated by the Environmental Committee to Coastal Habitat for Humanity, which has been building homes for local families with the help of volunteers for over 10 years. Donations of clean, useable family clothing, household linens, shoes, handbags and belts can be placed in bins that will be located at NJNG’s William L. Maude Service Center in Wall, and the company’s Lakewood and Atlantic Highlands offices.

Discarded textiles represent five percent of the waste in our landfills. Recycling clothing and household linens can help reduce pressure on our landfills, which will extend the time they can be used, and lengthen the amount of time before new sites would have to be dedicated to landfill use.

Donated textiles will find their way to less fortunate people, both here and abroad, helping to give them sources of clothing and everyday linens for their homes. Items that cannot be used for their original purposes will go to companies that remanufacture textiles for fibers, providing jobs and making new products for use in homes and businesses.

The following items will be accepted in the donation bins:
- Clean clothing in wearable condition
- Clean, useable household linens:
- Bedroom sheets, pillowcases, comforters & spreads, curtains and draperies, etc.
- Kitchen towels, curtains, tablecloths, placemats, napkins
- Dining room curtains, draperies, tablecloths, napkins, chair covers
- Bathroom towels, curtains, cloth shower curtains, towels, washcloths, throw- rugs
- Living room curtains, draperies, slipcovers
- Wearable shoes, handbags, belts

The bins will be on site at the locations listed beginning Monday, April 17 through
October 2006.
