NJR CELEBRATES READ ACROSS AMERICA
03/01/2006 - For Immediate ReleaseWhat originally began as a one-day event to mark the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss has become a nationwide initiative that promotes the importance of literacy and celebrates the joy reading can bring to a child.
“The importance of reading can never be overestimated. A good book inspires creativity and curiosity,” said Kathleen T. Ellis, senior vice president of corporate affairs at NJR. “At NJR, we are committed to advancing literacy and a life-long love of reading through our corporate and personal support of programs like Read Across America in our hometowns.”
The following NJR executives will visit local schools on March 2 to celebrate Read Across America Day and read to students:
Ms. Ellis will read Dr. Seuss stories to children at the Belmar Elementary School, located at 1101 Main Street in Belmar.
Craig Lynch, vice president – energy delivery, will read to students at the Oak Street Elementary School in Lakewood, located at 75 Oak Street.
Tim Hearne, senior vice president and treasurer, and Kathleen Kerr, vice president – marketing and customer service, will join members of the NJR community relations department at the Gregory School, located at 157 N. 7th Avenue in Long Branch.
NJR promotes the importance of education in the community through its Energy for Education program, which includes various initiatives for students of all ages. The company is working to expand educational opportunities in Monmouth, Ocean and Morris counties, with a special focus on students in urban areas. From donating school supplies to enhancing access to online information, NJR takes a hands-on approach to supporting education in the local community.
