NJNG LEADS THE STATE IN CUSTOMER SATISFACTION ACCORDING TO J.D.POWER AND ASSOCIATES
09/27/2006 - For Immediate Release

WALL, N.J. – New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) ranked the highest of the state’s four natural gas utilities according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Gas Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study. The study measures overall customer satisfaction based on company image, communications, price and value, billing and payment, customer service and field service. The results, released today, also placed NJNG first in the state and region in three of these categories.

“Our employees work hard every day to meet the needs of our customers for safety and reliability, no matter how big or small. Their commitment to excellence has made us the statewide leader in customer satisfaction and service,” said Laurence M. Downes, chairman and CEO of NJNG. “We’re also proud to be recognized as one of the top two natural gas utilities in the region. We will use the results of this study, as we always do, to help us understand how we can continue to build on our past performance.”

Since the study began, NJNG has performed at or above the industry average in all categories with an overall customer satisfaction rating greater than the regional average.

This year, NJNG ranked first in customer service among the 16 gas utilities in the east region. The company’s score of 779 is well above both the regional and national averages and also placed the company third in the nation. NJNG’s scores for billing and payment and company image were both highest in the region, as well as sixth in the nation. Additionally, the company’s field service ranked third in the region.

The Gas Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study, published for the past five years, measures customer satisfaction with the 56 largest U.S. gas utility providers. These results are based on more than 12,000 telephone interviews with U.S. residential natural gas customers. The responses were collected during April and June 2006. More information on the J.D. Power and Associates study can be found at www.jdpower.com.
