NJNG BRINGS HIGH-SPEED INTERNET ACCESS TO THE DOVER FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY
03/04/2004 - For Immediate Release

DOVER, N.J. – New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), the principal subsidiary of New Jersey Resources (NYSE: NJR), today dedicated new computer equipment to the Dover Free Public Library to bring residents the benefits of high-speed Internet access at their local library. NJNG provided funding and support for a state-of-the-art Internet connection at the library through the Libraries On-Line program.

“We are pleased to offer this technology upgrade to enhance the resources and opportunities for learning at the Dover Free Public Library,” said Laurence M. Downes, chairman and CEO of NJNG. “Public libraries play a vital role in our communities by providing open access to information. Our Libraries On-Line program recognizes the importance of computer and Internet access as a gateway to opportunity.”

Today’s dedication was officiated by Seema M. Singh, New Jersey Ratepayer Advocate and Director of the Ratepayer Advocate Office; Mayor Javier Marin, Town of Dover; Larry Huss, Director of the Dover Free Public Library; Thomas J. Kononowitz, Senior Vice President – Marketing Services, New Jersey Natural Gas; Thomas F. Hayes, Director – Consumer and Community Relations, New Jersey Natural Gas.

“Libraries On-Line not only gives residents the ability to tap into a wealth of information, it also opens doors to a brighter future through access to educational and employment opportunities and other resources,” stated Seema M. Singh, New Jersey Ratepayer Advocate and Director of the Ratepayer Advocate’s Office. “We commend NJNG for going beyond meeting customers’ energy needs and contributing to the quality of life in our communities.”

The Libraries On-Line program assists libraries in urban areas within NJNG’s service territory that are not members of their county library system. With new equipment and high-speed Internet connections, participating libraries can offer community residents improved access to the Internet for news, information and job resources, and to communicate with family and friends around the world. Through the program, libraries also receive workstations, printers and network maintenance services.

The public library in Dover is the fifth library to participate in the program, which began in 1999 with the Asbury Park Public Library. Since then, the Long Branch, Red Bank, and Keyport public libraries have also received technology upgrades through the Libraries On-Line program.
