Protecting the environment is essential to the quality of life for future generations and it is fundamental to our business. NJR sponsors and supports many programs and activities that promote environmental stewardship and our employees are involved in many efforts that benefit our community. In addition, NJR has company-wide initiatives that promote reuse, recycling, waste prevention and the use of remanufactured products.

NJR Environmental Committee - The Environmental Committee is comprised of entirely employee volunteers. They serve to uphold the practices and principles of NJR’s Environmental Policy and demonstrate our commitment to the environment. The Committee encourages employees and their families to help preserve our natural resources through a variety of programs and activities.

WasteWise™ – NJR participates in WasteWise, the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s voluntary program that encourages organizations to reduce, reuse, recycle and buy remanufactured products, while emphasizing waste prevention and environmental preservation. All our employees help to make this program a success.

Some of the many programs included in this effort are: recycling of phone books, metals, paint, pallets, electronics, paper and cardboard, the use of remanufactured printer cartridges and the company Reuse Center, where employees can find a large collection of office supplies that would have otherwise been discarded.

Natural Gas STAR™ - Together with the Environmental Protection Agency and other natural gas companies through out the country, NJR is working to help reduce methane emissions as a part of the Natural Gas STAR™ Program. Since joining in 2004, we have adopted technologies and practices that create a cleaner environment and better quality of life for our customers and communities.

Beach Clean Ups - Together with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Adopt-A-Beach program, NJR volunteers clean up local coastal beaches to reduce the threat of marine debris to fish and wildlife.

Road Clean Ups – As a member of the Adopt-A-Road program, NJR volunteers clean-up annually a one-mile stretch of Wyckoff Road near company headquarters. This is a partnership program with Wall Township.

Earth Day – To celebrate Earth Day, for one week each year, the Environmental Committee sponsors activities to highlight this national event. Previous events included an Earth Day-themed art contest for children of employees, distribution of energy kits, giveaways and classes regarding environmental preservation. These are just a few of the many ways our employees have celebrated Earth Day over the years.
